(Answering question about statement of White House trade adviser Peter Navarro, who said that India’s purchases of Russian crude are funding Moscow’s conflict in Ukraine)
"We are not the biggest purchasers of Russian oil, that is China. We are not the biggest purchasers of Russian LNG (liquefied natural gas), I am not sure but I think that is the European Union. We are not the country which has the biggest trade surge with Russia after 2022, I think there are some countries to the south. We are a country where actually the Americans said for the last few years that we should do everything to stabilise the world energy markets including buying oil from Russia. Incidentally, we also buy oil from America and that amount has been increasing. So quite honestly we are very perplexed at the logic of the argument that you had referred."

STORYLINE:
India’s foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar visited Moscow on Thursday where he met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
Speaking at a press conference, Lavrov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin could visit India before the end of the year, and that preparations were already underway.
Lavrov also noted that Moscow and New Delhi had plans for the supply of Russian oil to the Indian market and joint resource extraction on Russian territory.
Answering a question about the statement of White House trade adviser Peter Navarro, who said that India’s purchases of Russian crude are funding Moscow’s conflict in Ukraine and had to stop, Jaishankar said that India is not the biggest purchaser of Russian neither oil nor other resources.
"We are a country where actually the Americans said for the last few years that we should do everything to stabilize the world energy markets including buying oil from Russia," Jaishankar told the news conference.
"Incidentally, we also buy oil from America and that amount has been increasing," Jaishankar added. "So quite honestly we are very perplexed at the logic of the argument that you had referred."
