4. SOUNDBITE (English) Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General:
"This year alone, Russia is expected to roll out at least 1,500 tanks, 3,000 armored vehicles and hundreds of Iskander missiles. As for China, it already has the world’s largest navy and some of the largest defense companies in the world. Their military build-up points in a clear direction. They’re preparing for long term confrontation and competition with us. So yes, we are being challenged, but Europe and America together are on course to turn the tide on defense production."
5. Wide of tank in front of audience in event hall
6. SOUNDBITE (German) Boris Pistorius, German Defense Minister:
"I am convinced that the speed of production will be just as impressive as the speed with which this plant was built. Just 18 months after we broke ground together, considerable quantities are rolling off the production line here, and you intend to increase these figures significantly in a very short time, which is impressive. And it sends a strong signal, ladies and gentlemen, a strong signal that we are increasing our security of supply here in Germany."

8. Wide of ammunition stockpiles
STORYLINE:
German defense company Rheinmetall on Wednesday opened a new artillery ammunition factory in northern Germany, underscoring Europe’s efforts to boost weapons production amid Russia’s war in Ukraine.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, joined Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and others at the Unterluess site for the inauguration.
Rheinmetall aims to produce 350,000 artillery shells a year at the facility.
"I am convinced that the speed of production will be just as impressive as the speed with which this plant was built," Pistorius told a crowd gathered for the event.
Pistorius said the opening "sends a strong signal" that Germany is "increasing its security supply".
Rutte also said that “we are being challenged” by Russia and China, “but Europe and America together are on course to turn the tide on defense production.”
Germany, a leading NATO and European Union member, has moved to modernize its long-neglected military since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
That year, it set up a 100 billion euro ($117 billion) special fund to modernize its armed forces, much of which has been committed to procuring new equipment.
