A plane carrying Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was jammed while traveling to Bulgaria on Sunday, forcing the pilot to land using paper maps. Bulgarian authorities say they suspect Russian interference, which Moscow has denied. But in recent months interference with satellite navigation has become increasingly frequent in the airspace near Russia. At a news conference earlier on Tuesday, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the alliance is taking precautions against jamming. EU chief von der Leyen has yet to comment on the incident. In response to the incident, Italy’s government has announced that it will classify the flight trajectories of state leaders. Typically, the Italian government publicizes Italian flights – per decree – on a public website.
