STORYLINE:
U.S. Senators Roger Wicker (Mississippi) and Deb Fischer (Nebraska) arrived Taiwan Friday for talks with Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te on regional stability.

The senators embarked on a trip to the Indo-Pacific region last Friday as part of efforts to strengthen U.S. national security interests.

The lawmaker duo made stops in Hawaii, Guam, Tinian, Palau, the Philippines, and Taiwan.

At a news conference, Wicker said, “we’re here to talk to our friends and allies in Taiwan about what we’re doing to enhance worldwide peace.”

Fischer said "it is extremely significant for us to be here."

The two lawmakers are staying in Taiwan for at least two days.
