Brazil’s Supreme Court has found the country’s far-right former president Jair Bolsonaro guilty of plotting a coup to stay in power, following his election defeat in 2022. The 70-year-old now faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life behind bars, after being sentenced to 27 years in prison. Bolsonaro denies the allegations – and says he will appeal the ruling, but experts say it’s unlikely the verdict will change.
