Nepal appoints first female prime minister, after deadly youth protests | DW News

Nepal’s president has appointed a new interim prime minister to lead the nation — after the previous administration collapsed amid violent protest. Sushila Karki is a former chief justice and will be Nepal’s first female prime minister. She emerged as the Gen Z protest movement’s top choice to lead the country. Prime minister KP Sharma Oli resigned Tuesday after his government’s short-lived social-media ban triggered a Gen Z-led uprising that quickly escalated.
