"I mean, it’s a testament to what we’ve always tried to represent. First and foremost, not only is it an honor and a pleasure, but it’s even more of an honor and a pleasure to be able to be celebrated in this way, you know, to smell your flowers and receive them, and being able to do that with the family and the friends and the people that you love, and that was actually a part of that journey. So it feels like this award and this acknowledgement, this beautiful accolade, is not really just for me. A lot of people that was behind the scenes that had to, you know, bust their ass to make sure that I could come out here and do what I had to do. A lot of sacrifices my kids had to experience that I had make and miss magical and important moments to them in order to be able to make sure that they didn’t need for anything. And when they was younger it was challenging for them to understand and for them deal with, but you know they grew to learn that as challenging as it was at the time they get it now. And they understand it because, you know, now that they’re starting to be in it, like, my oldest son is his manager, my daughter, this is my daughter. This is Cee, she’s finishing her own album. Then I have another son who’s an MMA kickboxing champ, and he’s a producer. And I have a beautiful daughter by the name of Ri, who’s also a producer, and she plays classic piano. And I got a son, his hoop dreams is to the tree of power. So I got the Avengers as children. I got X-Men as children."

"I think at the end of the day. I just focus on doing the work, and I focus on fulfilling my soul. Once I’m good there, however the work gets acknowledged, which we always wanted to be acknowledged, it’s subjective, right? Because everybody gonna feel how they feel, they gonna have their favorite artist, they gonna feel like. Whatever their thing is, is what it is for them. But for the people that I do get to touch the souls of, anything beyond that is icing on the cake. But as long as I’m able to touch the soul of the people that really understand the value of what I’m doing and the appreciation for what I am doing, and they cherish it and they treasure it, I’m doin’ what it is exactly that I’m supposed to be doin’. You know, sometimes we feel like, and people might say, yo, they should have did this. You should have got acknowledged a long time ago. I kind of used to feel like that, but then I feel like … The way it’s happening now, maybe it wouldn’t have been able to happen this way when I thought it might have should have happened sooner. You know what I’m saying? Like the abundance of flowers that I’ve been able receive recently is so abundant that this is the time that something greater than us said it was time and I also don’t I think it’s a coincidence that me and the royal empress Mariah Carey is getting the two biggest trophies of the night in the same building on the same day in the same year and we’re going to sledgehammer it. On the same stage. And I’m here to do this with all of my beautiful children and all of the beautiful people that actually busted their ass behind the scenes to help me get here."

Busta Rhymes was honored with the first-ever Rock the Bells Visionary Award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, a recognition he says he’s grateful to receive at this stage in his career.
