"The scope and scale of Bright Star 25 has grown immensely. If you look at today’s exercise that we’ve been developing for the past 18 months, we have over 40 countries participating and observing and over 8,500 soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines from all over the world that have come to Egypt into the Alexandria region to show partnership and to train shoulder to shoulder."

"The primary objectives that we saw in Bright Star 25 were to develop partnerships that are able to deter and defend so we can promote security and prosperity in the region, and I think Bright Star is an excellent example of that imperative between Egypt and the United States that we continue this work and we continue to strive for stability in this region."

STORYLINE:
U.S. and Egyptian forces took part in a major counterterrorism drill in Egypt on Tuesday as part of the Bright Star 25 joint exercises.
Forty-three countries will participate in this joint training in Egypt, including 14 countries contributing forces and military equipment with more than 8,000 fighters.
Some 29 countries participate as observers.
The biennial Bright Star exercises are among the largest joint exercises conducted by the United States in the Middle East.
This year’s instalment kicked off on 28 August and will run until 10 September.
The Bright Star exercises begun in October 1980 following the signing of the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel in 1979.
