STORYLINE:
Long-suffering Palestinians were displaced once again as the Israeli military urged a full evacuation of Gaza City on Tuesday morning ahead of its planned expanded offensive in the northern city.
Associated Press reporters saw more cars and trucks than previous days passing from northern to southern Gaza on Tuesday, laden with supplies and people, but no widespread evacuation.
Hazem Abu Reyash, displaced from Gaza City, told the Associated Press that he and his wife have been forced to sleep in the streets in the absence of any available shelter.
Ashraf Ziyara, another displaced Palestinian, said that he was forced to evacuate out of fear of shelling and airstrikes.
The decision was difficult, as he and his family suffered when they displaced to south of enclave previously for a year and a half.
Hundreds of thousands of people have already been struggling under conditions of famine.
There are an estimated 1 million Palestinians in the area of north Gaza around Gaza City, according to both the Israeli military and the United Nations, around half of Gaza’s population of 2.1 million.
