“There has been a huge difference in food and water after the displacement from the north to us (the south). There has been an increase in the population, an increase in the high cost of living and prices, in everything, a very big increase. There is no water, no food, not even a place for the people to sleep. There is no space, as you can see, there is a terribly great pressure. We do not know what to do with the people. We are trying to shelter them and help them, but we do not have the capacity.”

“We live near the sewers, we live in exhaustion and humiliation. In addition (now) to the displacement of the people of Gaza (city), where will they go? how will we find a place for them while we live in the middle of the sewers? In the middle of the waste, I swear to God that I wash clothes with little water. Water is not available. We suffer from the scarcity of water, we suffer from filth. God only knows our conditions. We live in misery, in the sewers with cockroaches and mice. We ask Allah and we ask anybody who can help us in anyway to help us and improve our conditions.”

STORYLINE:
With more displaced people from the north arriving in Muwasi, Palestinians reported overcrowding in Gaza’s southern camps, along with lack of food and drinking water.
They say overcrowding in displacement camps across southern Gaza has worsened since the Israeli army declared northern Gaza and Gaza City a combat zone and ordered residents to evacuate.
Families who fled the north poured into Khan Younis and surrounding areas, cramming into tents and makeshift shelters alongside those already displaced.
"There is no water, no food, not even a place for the people to sleep for the people from the north," said Ismail Mustafa, a displaced man from Rafah.
He added that charities, which have already been strained, are unable to deal with the added pressure.
Fathyeh Moamar, a displaced woman, shared similar sentiments, stressing that people are unable to receive basic needs and can’t help others who are now also recently displaced.
“We live near the sewers, we live in exhaustion, we live in humiliation," she said, adding that there is barely any water to wash her clothes.
Israel’s military warned Gaza City residents on Tuesday and repeated on Wednesday to evacuate ahead of its plans to take control of what it portrays as Hamas’ last remaining stronghold and where hundreds of thousands of people remain struggling under conditions of famine.
