4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Yazeed Al-Sarghali, pharmacist:
"They took us out of the pharmacy and made us stand in front of it. I had three customers at the time, and their cars were parked outside. They lined us up like that, and my son, Dr. Mohammed Al-Sarghali, was with us as well. They made us stand in a line, like a train. There were seven of us, and they marched us for about 100 meters until we reached the Saraya area. There, they arrested two more people, bringing the total number to nine. As we were walking, they would stop anyone they suspected, including people living in the houses on both sides of the street."

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Yazeed Al-Sarghali, pharmacist:
"They led us into the military base. The officer asked the soldier, ‘How many people did you bring?’ The officer was a young man — I believe he was Druze, as he wasn’t wearing a cap — and he appeared to be from the paratroopers unit based on the insignia he wore. The soldier replied, ‘I brought 79 people.’ The officer then said, ‘Take them in, two by two, and have them sit over there. The camp we were taken into held around 1,500 to 2,000 people."

8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Yazeed Al-Sarghali, pharmacist:
"I don’t know whether this was a show of force or some sort of training exercise — I have no idea. They didn’t interrogate anyone sitting there, but after we were released, we heard that they had arrested two or three people from among the group."
9. Wide of Tulkarem vegetable market
10. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mohammed Baddo, resident of Tulkarem refugee camp:
"What happened was that the army started arresting people. I was sitting at a café with my friend when the soldiers grabbed both of us like this and took us to the Al-Khodori area. They didn’t take our ID cards, our phones, or anything at all — they just kept us sitting there. Around 1 a.m, they released us."

STORYLINE:
Israeli troops encircled the city of Tulkarem on Thursday, after a military vehicle rolled over an explosive device, injuring two soldiers. Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for planting the explosives.

After closing all metal gates surrounding the city, Israel’s troops then began rounding up Palestinian men in a large-scale raid. Troops brought roughly one thousand people to an open field near a military checkpoint and held them overnight, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club.

Pharmacist Yazeed Al-Sarghali, 67, said troops entered his shop Thursday afternoon, detaining him, his son and the customers inside the shop.

"They made us stand in a line, like a train. There were seven of us, and they marched us for about 100 meters,” he said. “As we were walking, they would stop anyone they suspected, including people living in the houses on both sides of the street.”

Al-Sarghali said he was brought to a military checkpoint, where there were hundreds more Palestinians detained. He said troops did not interrogate anyone and released most of the men around 1 am on Friday.

Mohammed Baddo, 19, said he was sitting at a cafe with his friend when the soldiers grabbed them, bringing them to the checkpoint.

Hamas said that the arrests in Tulkarem would not affect the will of Palestinians.
