"Yeah, it was totally a risk. At the very beginning, they gave me one script. I was barely in it. I’d have a million questions. And then every answer they’d give me gave me 1,000 more questions. But I really trusted Ben [Stiller, director]. And I love sci-fi. And I thought Dan [Erickson, showrunner] was really interesting. So if you’re going to go on a wild goose chase and jump into the void, you might as well do it with Ben Stiller."

(Reporter: "The show is so visual, right? I feel like it’s such a huge part of it, so like, when you read the script, did it make sense?")
"You don’t, you didn’t read that, kind of. It was really exciting to show up and see the stage, the hallways, the way that it visually looked, you know, the MDR floor and see that green carpet and those cubicles and that whole kind of setup. You got a very excited feeling, but it wasn’t in the script like that. Like, you didn’t really, it wasn’t spelled out like that. Yes, the cubicles were written in there, but you didn’t really have a strong kind of idea and Jeremy [Hindle] did an amazing job designing it and also Ben – and I trusted Ben and also our DP Jessica [Lee Gagné] because we’d worked on ‘[Escape at] Dannemora’ which has such a different esthetic, but the way she moves her camera and the way that her and Ben have this kind of shorthand communication about, you know, structure, composition of shots and things like that."

"It’s really risky and a lot of times in the second season people really dial it back. They feel like they’ve kind of figured out their language for the show and their visual. Where the first season was very interior, the second was very exterior and you learned a lot about different characters. So it just took a lot risk and I really appreciated that."
