STORYLINE:
About 1,000 families were displaced on Monday after a massive fire in Manila broke out in a densely populated residential area of the Philippine capital.

The Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region said no casualties were reported from the blaze which erupted on Saturday night.

Some survivors of the blaze were seen on Monday looking for anything valuable.

“We are scavenging for scrap so that we can have some money for our daily expenses, we have no other income,” said 22-year-old Jepoy Marsada, pointing to his burned house.

A basketball gym was filled up as an evacuation center for people who were affected.

Aileen Nikol and her family had to set up a temporary tent on a road island with passing traffic on both sides.

“There is no available relocation area for us, we will just go back, I hope we can get some help to fix our house," she said as she gathered her belongings.
