STORYLINE:
French president Emmanuel Macron met with Poland’s new president Karol Nawrocki at the Elysee palace on Tuesday.
Nawrocki, a former amateur boxer and historian, who was backed by the conservative Law and Justice party, took office in August.
It was a first meeting for the two leaders.
It came as the Polish government remained on high alert after multiple Russian drones crossed into the country on Sept. 10 in what European officials described as a deliberate provocation. NATO sent fighter jets to shoot them down.
Nawrocki is expected to lobby Macron for stronger defenses on Poland’s eastern border with Ukraine and Belarus.
Earlier Tuesday, Nawrocki was in Berlin meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
