"We had issues with the sliding center. We thought the timeline was too short and also we thought that the legacy benefit from the new sliding center would probably not meet the expectations that we wanted. Having said all that, the decision from the national authorities in Italy to build a sliding center, which is their privilege, has surpassed our expectations. They have delivered on time. The sliding center has been tested by athletes already."

"We make everybody, including the stakeholders, use public transportation between the clusters. So this is very new and it’s part of the sustainability that was mentioned before. And of course in order to be able to do this we are working with some of our partners and some of the local operators in transport to reinforce the system and the network for public transportation"

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Christophe Dubi, Olympic Games Executive Director at International Olympic Committee:
"When it comes to the second situation that you mentioned (Israel taking part), this is different. We have two national Olympic Committees and both of them are fully in compliance with the Olympic Charter. So from a pure sporting standpoint, what we are responsible for, these are two separate cases, hence why the executive board will look into Russia and and Belarusian. When it comes to the second situation (Israel taking part) we rely on the sports institutions and again they are respecting the charter."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Christophe Dubi, Olympic Games Executive Director at International Olympic Committee:
"You always have a certain level of risk that you need to address, and to your point, full trust in the work that is being done. We had the security coordinator from the government with us yesterday. It’s great work being done, great planning for any of the events, including the torch relay and, of course, games time."

STORYLINE:
Officials organizing the 2026 Winter Olympics met in Milan, Italy Wednesday.
Speaking at a news conference, Kristin Kloster, the Chair of the Coordination Commission for the Olympic Winter Games, said a newly built sliding center has “surpassed expectations”.
“They have delivered on time. The sliding center has been tested by athletes already,” Kloster told reporters.
There had been doubts about building a new sliding center, and a backup plan to host bobsled, luge and skeleton events in Lake Placid, New York, had been in place.
Milan Cortina, as the games are known, will be the first Winter Games to fully embrace cost-cutting reforms and use mostly existing venues and events will be spread across 22,000 square kilometers (nearly 10,000 square miles) – the most widespread Winter Olympics ever.
Christophe Dubi, the Olympic Games Executive Director, said there was “great planning” being done for security.
