Ahmed al-Sharaa: First Syrian president to address UN since 1967 | DW News

Ahmed al-Sharaa has become the first Syrian president to address the UN General Assembly since 1967.

Syria was isolated for 60 years while under the rule of the Assad family, but al-Sharaa led insurgent forces that overthrew the government in December. He then assumed the role of interim president. After years of civil war, al-Sharaa said his government was striving for diplomacy, stability, and economic development.
