STORYLINE:
Scores of Palestinians continued to flee Gaza City on Saturday, as the Israeli army ramped up its large-scale military operations there.
Israel has been urging hundreds of thousands of Palestinians sheltering in the city to move south to what it calls a humanitarian zone.
It opened another corridor south of Gaza City for two days this week to allow more people to evacuate.
Families were seen moving south along the coastal Wadi Gaza route; some in trucks and others pushing carts with belongings.
“We are headed toward the unknown," said Faris Swafiri, one of the many displaced from Gaza City.
Exhausted mothers and fathers carried or pushed whatever little belongings they had been able to salvage.
Those too exhausted to continue stopped to catch their breath and give their children a much-needed break from the difficult journey.
Seif Abu Qomsan, a displaced man from Gaza City, said Palestinians were forced to leave "with nothing".
He accused Israel of targeting Palestinians with "things you wouldn’t imagine, like science fiction".
The Israeli military, which says it wants to “destroy Hamas’ military infrastructure”, hasn’t given a timeline for the offensive.
