STORYLINE:
Kyiv residents reacted to US President Donald Trump’s claims that Ukraine could win back all territory lost to Russia with reserved optimism.

Volodymyr Cheslavskyi, a military serviceman from Kyiv, told the Associated Press that Trump changes his attitude toward Ukraine too often.

"He can say different things each time," Cheslavskyi said.

"I do not consider Donald Trump to be a pro-Ukrainian politician. He is a person who looks where he can earn money," he added.

Trump said Tuesday that he believed Ukraine could win back all territory lost to Russia, a dramatic shift from the U.S. leader’s repeated calls for Kyiv to make concessions to end the war.

Anna Khudimova, a Kyiv resident, said she has faith in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but admitted that Trump’s support is important.

"I very much believe in them and believe that we can do it. But we cannot do it without the help of NATO, without the support of Europe. If Trump influences the situation, then perhaps this can be realistic," she said.

The strengthened support from Trump, if it sticks, is a huge win for Zelenskyy, who has urged the American president to keep up the pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end his war.
