STORYLINE:
French President Emmanuel Macron has welcomed US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to the Elysee Palace for talks on Ukraine.
Paris is hosting a series of high-level talks about Ukraine and its security. Rubio and Witkoff are taking part, as well as Ukrainian presidential adviser Andrii Yermak and Ukraine’s foreign and defense ministers.
There are also meetings with countries considering a way to police an eventual peace deal.
Thursday’s meetings come as concerns grow about U.S. President Donald Trump’s readiness to draw closer to Russia as he seeks to broker a ceasefire in Ukraine.
