STORYLINE:
Bolivian and Peruvian artists gathered on Friday to make large sand sculptures of images representing the Passion of the Christ, in the Bolivian city of Oruro.
The event is an annual visual spectacle in the Andean country for the Holy Week.
The works will remain there as long as the icy wind of the Bolivian altiplano allows.
Artists from Bolivia and Peru have worked on the sculptures, all of them with religious themes, on the sands of Cochiraya, 190 kilometres south of the capital La Paz.
The sand sculptors started working early in the morning and by Friday afternoon, the displays opened to the public, drawing in hundreds of visitors.
