“He (Francis) was so humane. And what I liked most about him was that he treated the poor, unfortunate, disadvantaged people very well, which is what our society lacks today. And this is a very big example for us. You know, many priests call him a man with the heart of Jesus. And that’s how it is. Well, how can I not come today and say goodbye to him?”

STORYLINE:
The first requiem mass dedicated to the late Pope Francis was held at Moscow’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin Mary on Thursday.
People who gathered for the mass remembered the pontiff with great warmth and love.
“I thank our Lord that there was such a person in this world who sowed so much love and understanding,” said a priest from Mexico living in the Russian capital.
“What I liked most about him was that he treated the poor, unfortunate, disadvantaged people very well, which is what our society lacks today,” another Moscow resident said.
“How can I not come today and say goodbye to him?”
Francis died on Easter Monday at the age of 88 after suffering a stroke, setting off mourning in the Catholic world and days of ritual at the Vatican.
St. Francis is now lying in state in a simple wooden coffin inside St. Peter’s Basilica.
Interest in paying respects to him is high.
The Vatican kept the doors open all night due to higher-than-expected turnout from mourners across the globe, closing the basilica for just an hour Thursday morning for cleaning.
A funeral will be held on Saturday in St. Peter’s Square.
The funeral will be followed by a conclave to elect a new pope, though the date for that has not been set yet.
