STORYLINE:
An explosion and smoke were seen east of Gaza City on Friday, as Israel continued its military offensive in the enclave.
Another explosion, followed by a cloud of smoke, was also observed from southern Israel, rising from the northern Gaza Strip.
Israel ended its ceasefire with Hamas and renewed its air and ground war over a month ago.
It has sealed off Gaza’s 2 million Palestinians from all food and other imports since the beginning of March to pressure Hamas to release hostages.
Around two dozen hostages are still believed to be alive.
Israel’s offensive has killed over 51,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to the Health Ministry, which does not say how many of the dead were fighters or civilians.
Israel says it has killed around 20,000 militants, without providing evidence.
More than 400 Israeli soldiers have died in ground operations in Gaza, according to official figures, which do not include soldiers killed during the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks.
The war began when Hamas-led militants stormed into southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting 251.
The militants still have 59 hostages, 24 of whom are believed to be alive, after most of the rest were released in ceasefire agreements or other deals.
