1. 00:00 SOUNDBITE (English): Enzo Maresca, Chelsea head coach (asked if this season will have been a failure if Chelsea miss out on a place in next season’s Champions League):
"How many times in the last two years have Chelsea been in the Champions League? How many? Zero. How many times this season (being in that position)? Almost all season. Is it an improvement or not? Just, is it an improvement or not?"
REPORTER: Yes, well, I suppose it depends on where you finish (in the season)?
"No, it is already an improvement, because we spent all season there. Now, we are going to try our best to finish there, no doubt. We want to finish there, no doubt. Are we happy to finish there? Yes. Is it enough? No, because we want to compete for titles. But, compared to the last two years, I think it is quite clear that there has been an improvement."
2. 00:40 SOUNDBITE (English): Enzo Maresca, Chelsea head coach:
"To say that this season has been already a good season, compared to the last two (seasons) does not mean that I am saying that we are not going to try to finish top five, at all. It is our target. We said, I think since March, we started to say that our target is the Champions League, and the reason why is because, until March, the team was always there. So, if the team was always there, why not? We are going to try until the end."
3. 01:12 SOUNDBITE (English): Enzo Maresca, Chelsea head coach (on Chelsea fans showing frustration with the team in recent weeks):
"I can understand. I can understand. We are trying to keep them happy. I think the fans are the same that, (a) time ago, they were thinking that Chelsea is back. They were showing that they were happy, and now, probably, because we are not winning the same amount of games that we were winning at the beginning, they are showing that they are not happy."
4. 01:44 SOUNDBITE (English): Enzo Maresca, Chelsea head coach (on watching Sunday’s game against Everton from the stands due to picking up a one-game touchline ban after receiving a third booking of the season for celebrating Pedro Neto’s late goal in last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Fulham):
"I need to think a little bit more, but it was just an immediate reaction. So I feel sorry, because I would like to be there (on the sideline) tomorrow. But for sure, the ones (coaches) that are… there for me, they’re going do try to do the best."

STORYLINE:
Enzo Maresca has firmly rebutted suggestions that his first season in charge of Chelsea will be a failure if the club miss out on a place in next season’s Champions League.
Ahead of Saturday’s visit of Everton, the Italian gave his opinion that while Chelsea’s two previous Premier League campaigns had never looked like achieving Champions League berths, his stewardship has seen ‘The Blues’ regularly placed among the top clubs in the standings.
However, Maresca’s Chelsea side currently sit two points behind Newcastle United in the fifth and final Champions League spot with five games left in this season’s schedule after dropping points in five of their last nine league games.
