“We’ve also seen limited signs of external pressure on India to restrain its actions. So unlike previous periods of India-Pakistan hostility, when the US played a prominent role in deescalating tensions, we’re not seeing any signs of that under the current US administration. So as a result of that, I think we could see the situation go from bad to worse. So if we see, for instance, a breakdown of the ceasefire along the line of control, this is the line demarcating Indian and Pakistan administered Kashmir, which has been in place since 2021. We could see a tit for tat escalation between both countries.”

STORYLINE:
Residents and police in a southern area of Indian-administered Kashmir said Indian soldiers detonated explosives in the family homes of two suspected militants they accused of being involved in a deadly attack earlier this week.
In the past, Indian troops have demolished homes as a way to punish militancy in Kashmir.
Authorities say they are investigating two local men and two Pakistani nationals for their alleged involvement in the attack. Officials have not elaborated or shared any evidence.
