Can Rubio prevent Pakistan-India tensions from ratcheting up further? | DW News

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has told Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to condemn last week’s deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir. Rubio urged Sharif to help India investigate the massacre of 26 people in the disputed territory. India has blamed Pakistan for the killings, but Islamabad denies involvement. Fears of a war between the two nuclear-armed neighbors are growing as both countries have cancelled visas for each country’s citizens, and have traded cross-border fire, with India closing its airspace to Pakistani planes. On Monday, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khuwaja Muhammad Asif claimed its military had evidence that India was planning a military assault against it.
