“Yes, there is sadness, but during this Jubilee year he has prepared us to be hopeful. He left us with his word of hope, so we bring in the faith. The faith in the resurrection of Jesus."

6. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Daniela (no family name given), Rome resident:
“It was a very moving day because he (Pope Francis) entered in the heart of Rome. We are from Rome and we are happy, he was a great Pope. He was simple and just person. Knowing Rome and stories of other popes who were much less accessible compared to him, he had his importance.”

8. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Mercedes Donoso Guerrero, Catholic faithful from Spain:
“He was a brave pope, most importantly a brave man. It was very important the way he gave value to disabled people, to the family, and the way he included women like my sister who is divorced. Stopping judging them and letting them come back in the church. He gave value to second chances.”

STORYLINE:
Crowds applauded as a slow-moving motorcade escorting the pope’s coffin arrived at St. Mary Major Basilica where he will be buried in a private ceremony later Saturday.
As many as 200,000 people are expected to attend the funeral, which Francis choreographed himself when he revised and simplified the Vatican’s rites and rituals last year.
His aim was to emphasize the pope’s role as a mere priest and not “a powerful man of this world.”
Francis is breaking with recent tradition and will be buried in the St. Mary Major Basilica, near Rome’s main train station, where a simple underground tomb awaits him with just his name: Franciscus.
As many as 300,000 people are expected to line the 4-kilometer (2.5-mile) motorcade route that will bring Francis’ coffin from the Vatican through the centre of Rome to the basilica after the funeral.
The Vatican said 40 special guests would greet his coffin on the piazza in front of the basilica, reflecting the marginalized groups Francis prioritized as pope: homeless people and migrants, prisoners and transgender people.
