"250,000 people were packed into St. Peter’s Square this morning for a very moving funeral mass for Pope Francis. Shortly before the mass began, various world leaders emerged on the altar area, including U.S. President Donald Trump, wearing a navy blue suit, and his wife, First Lady Melania, dressed all in black with black veil and black spike heels. Shortly behind them was Ukrainian President Zelensky. Apparently, Trump and Zelensky had a meeting in the Basilica ahead of the mass. Also on the altar area were other world leaders, including French President Macron, Lula of Brazil, and President Milei of Argentina, also Prince William and King Felipe of Spain. So many dignitaries up on the alter area. In sharp contrast, many humble people, the kind of people that Pope Francis was very close to down here in the piazza. We spoke to many of them, and they said they will remember Pope Francis for his constant desire to fight for peace and always wanting to be with the common people, with the poor, with the humble. We also spoke to migrants and others here who were in the piazza and remembered what Pope Francis had done personally for them. At the end of the service, his simple wooden casket was taken out, put in a converted popemobile and driven through the streets of Rome, across town about six kilometers, to the St. Mary Major Cathedral, where it was buried. Along the route, crowds gathered and cheered and clapped as the pope’s casket passed in front of them."
