STORYLINE:
The red carpet treatment was rolled out for French bulldogs at a charity event in Moscow.
Dressed up in colourful costumes, French bulldogs strutted their stuff at the event organised by a group of volunteers who help re-home strays found on the streets.
"It’s a trendy breed," said Olga Setina, an administrator at the Centre of Assistance to French bulldogs.
"There is a curse for any trendy breed when everyone rushes to get them, buys them for their kids, saying ‘how cute’, just like a picture on social media. But they’re bulldogs, they’ve got teeth, they’ve got health issues, they’ve got everything. And then people abandon them," she added.
Olga’s group helps about 700 bulldogs find new homes annually.
Many of the dogs seen strutting their paws on the red carpet were abandoned before the centre helped them find new owners.
Money collected at the event will help the centre continue its work, officials said
