"We’re here to offer our support, to say that acts of this kind have no place, have no place here and to ensure that it never happens again. And to show that there are young people or even old people or whatever you want, people who are against this kind, this kind of things. People are free to have their religion, to practice their faith, to belong to this or that people, without having to be, how to say, stigmatized and in the worst case scenario, murdered."
8. Crowd listening to speeches
9. SOUNDBITE (French) Kalilou (last name unavailable), 29, works in finance, of Muslim faith:
"These past two days, that’s all we’ve been talking about. That’s all we’ve been talking about in our groups. That’s all we’ve been talking about among ourselves. We keep wondering, did this attack really affect the country? Because we don’t see a great surge of solidarity that we would like to see. We don’t see a country coming to a stand still or politicians seriously condemning, seriously expressing outrage. We don’t see it. We see it on the left. Some political parties, on the left, we see it, but with others, we don’t see it."

12. SOUNDBITE (French) Assa Traoré, anti-racist activist:
"The current climate, it’s not a good climate. But it’s a climate where at the same time, what gives hope is that people continue to go out into the street, that we have a population, we have a youth that is in turmoil, where no one lets go and we are still here today and that’s what it is. It gives strength. I think we are at a very important turning point in the history of France, which is quite difficult ahead of us. We have a system, we have a state that is afraid, and it is this fear that we are facing head-on. But in return, we are here. The people, they are here, the French people, they are here and no one is afraid."

14. Activists with SOS Racisme General Director Valentin Stel
15. Close of sign reading (French): "Justice for Aboubakar" (young worshipper killed inside mosque)
16. SOUNDBITE (English) Valentin Stel, SOS Racisme NGO General Director:
"We’ve been witnessing for years, hate speech. Sometimes it is hidden behind the values, republican values, but hate speech targeting the Muslim community in France, saying that they are not fully French or their loyalty is questionable. And this kind of speech, which also has been the speech from the Minister of Interior Bruno Retailleau for months, is now arming people’s hands to kill others even in mosques."

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of protesters gathered in Paris on Sunday to pay tribute to the Muslim worshipper killed in a mosque in southern France days earlier.
The demonstration brought together non-governmental organisations, political representatives and faith leaders who denounced what they described as an Islamophobic atmosphere in France.
"We have a system, we have a state that is afraid, and it is this fear that we are facing head-on," said activist Assa Traoré on Sunday.
