The Hague, The Netherlands – 28 April 2025
1. Wide of Riyad Mansour, Palestinian U.N. ambassador, listening to reporter questions
2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Riyad Mansour, Palestinian ambassador to the U.N:
"God willing, with everyone’s efforts, we will be able to stop this unjust aggression against our people, because we want to spare the blood of our people. The ones who are harmed by this injustice and this war of genocide are the Palestinian people. We want to stop the aggression, we want to start the process of reconstruction and we want to move steadily towards the international conference in June, under the joint Saudi-French presidency, to begin the journey of implementing and applying the United Nations resolutions and the International Court of Justice decisions, in order to end this occupation as quickly as possible."

4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Riyad Mansour, Palestinian ambassador to the U.N:
"We are not only bound by what is decided, and that if Israel and those who support it do not agree, then nothing will happen — no, that’s not the case. There are certain countries, as third parties, that declare and work with us to declare and to take practical steps to put an end to this illegal occupation. Steps of various kinds: measures like refusing to engage with settlements, boycotting settlements and settlers and their products, halting the arming of Israel, ending weapons supplies, recognizing the Palestinian state, and many other forms of practical steps."

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Riyad Mansour, Palestinian ambassador to the U.N:
"This is the International Court of Justice, and even when it issues an advisory opinion, what is said that it is non-binding, this is nonsense. Yes, it is binding. We spend all this time, with all these countries, submitting written and oral pleadings. And the judges, who are elected and are important judges from their respective countries, what they decide is supposed to be binding on everyone. Anyone who respects international law and respects themselves must implement and apply it. And there are many countries that do abide by it."

8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ammar Hijazi, Palestinian ambassador to the Netherlands:
"The Court is required to rise to the level of this challenge imposed by Israel and some other supporting states upon the international system. Therefore, it must answer the questions that preventing international organizations, preventing the rights of peoples and preventing the control over sovereignty of states — depriving peoples of their right to self-determination — is rejected, unacceptable and will not be legally recognized. International law is based on equal rights for everyone. Either these rights are granted to all, or they are denied to all."

STORYLINE:
The Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations said on Monday the priority in Gaza must be to "stop the unjust aggression" and "spare the blood" of the Palestinian people.]
His comments came as the United Nations’ highest court began holding hearings on Monday into Israel’s obligation to facilitate humanitarian aid to the territories it occupies.
The hearings are focussed on a request last year from the U.N. General Assembly, which asked the International Court of Justice to weigh in on Israel’s legal responsibilities after the country blocked the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees from operating on its territory.
