STORYLINE:
Cardinals continued to meet Tuesday for pre-conclave discussions, following the death of Pope Francis.
On Tuesday morning after the Congregation of Cardinals, Cardinal John Ribat of Papua New Guinea told journalists the group was discussing the most important characteristics for the next pontiff.
"Someone who could be open, but also have a way of kind of, well, controlling, not in a bad way but in a way that keeps everyone together, and unites everyone,” he said.
The conclave is a closed-door meeting of the cardinal electors to choose the new leader of the Catholic Church in the Sistine Chapel.
The conclave to elect the late pope’s successor will begin May 7.
