It gives us tremendous advantage. The combatant commanders are all very supportive of it. We know that in a conflict with China that our ability to engage women gives us a tremendous advantage over our adversary China and our other adversaries.”

“Well, I don’t have any confidence in him. I mean, I can’t speak for everybody in the military, though I served in the United States Navy for 25 years. And when you put somebody who is clearly not up to this job, by the way, it’s one of the hardest jobs we have in the country managing a $850 billion enterprise with millions of employees, this is what you get. You get chaos. You get you know, ridiculous mistakes, you get sharing of information with people that shouldn’t have the information. So I’m not surprised. Before his vote, I went to the Senate floor and I said to my Republican colleagues, are you sure? Are you sure you want to put this guy, who in my view is clearly unqualified for into this job? So yeah, I’m not surprised we’re here.”

“Having a Signal message is by itself not bad, but the question that I had was, and I don’t have the answer to it yet, is were those done before the first advisory about the one that made everything public in the first place. So I don’t have that information. So if he was doing it beforehand or if he continued to do it afterwards, I don’t have the information yet.”

“It’s just predictable. It was completely predictable based on his track record of poor judgment in leadership positions, this kind of stuff would happen. And so, I hope to see some evidence of concern by some of my colleagues. When he is firing his own staff but then trying to blame the media for it, I mean it just shows somebody who won’t take responsibility for their actions, that’s just classic juvenile behavior. None of it is surprising, except that we should be shocked to see a Secretary of Defense behave in this way.”

STORYLINE:
Members of the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services expressed concerns and questions regarding Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Tuesday.
In recent reporting, Hegseth had an internet connection that bypassed the Pentagon’s security protocols set up in his office to use the Signal messaging app on a personal computer.
This is yet another wrinkle in the Signal story that continues to follow the Defense Secretary.
Sen. Mike Rounds, (R) South Dakota, said that having a Signal messaging app is not in itself bad.
“Having a Signal message is by itself not bad, but the question that I had was, and I don’t have the answer to it yet, is were those done before the first advisory about the one that made everything public in the first place. So I don’t have that information,” Rounds said.
But Sen. Mark Kelly, (D) Arizona says he doesn’t have any confidence in Hegseth.
Likewise, Sen. Tim Kaine, (D) Virginia, said he is not surprised.
