“You’ll see some guys they have the translator app on their phone. They’ll show the phone but that’s not as proficient as you knowing English and me knowing English so I can say ABC and you know ABC. I’ll tell you ABC now you might have to 10- 15 minutes to decipher what I’m really saying to you. So it’s not that you can’t get them the information — it slows up the supply chain.”

“You know the numbers that says 45 hours — 45 miles an hour. But it might give you other information like there’s a bridge closed ahead. You don’t know that. Or low bridge you’ll run into a bridge. That’s too low. So that’s how it makes a hazard and that’s just a couple things.”

STORYLINE:
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order reinforcing an already existing federal law requiring English-language proficiency as a requirement for commercial motor drivers.
In the ordered issued Monday evening, Trump contends the “requirement has not been enforced in years, and America’s roadways have become less safe.”
“My administration will enforce the law to protect the safety of American truckers, drivers, passengers, and others, including by upholding the safety enforcement regulations that ensure that anyone behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle is properly qualified and proficient in our national language, English,” the order states.
