"India has a no first use policy meaning it will not use nuclear weapons first. Pakistan hasn’t ruled out using nuclear weapons if it feels its existence is under threat but it can’t afford to take on India. India is bigger, richer and more powerful, and Pakistan has already lost three conventional wars against its neighbour."

"However, what Pakistan has done is called international attention to this crisis by saying a military attack by India is imminent. It hasn’t presented any evidence and it put a deadline saying that it could happen within 24 to 36 hours. That time has now passed and there’s still no sign of retaliation from India."

"There’s growing concern among the international community that the situation could get even more out of hand. The U.S., the UN have called for deescalation and restraint. It’s now up to India to decide whether to listen to those calls and ignored domestic pressure for revenge."
STORYLINE:
A deadly attack on tourists in the disputed Kashmir region last week has plunged relations between India and Pakistan to new lows, with both sides hinting at imminent military action.
India accuses Pakistan of backing the massacre, in which 26 men, mostly Indian Hindus, were killed, a charge Pakistan denies.
Both countries have since expelled diplomats and citizens, ordered the border shut and closed their airspace to each other.
Soldiers on each side have exchanged fire along their de facto border, with each blaming the other for shooting first.
