Germany’s new Chancellor Merz visits France, Poland one day after voting debacle | DW News

The leaders of Germany and France have pledged to jumpstart relations as allies at the core of Europe – during their first meeting.

The new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris. They pledged to strengthen European defense and give Ukraine security guarantees. They also said boosting European competitiveness would be a priority. It’s Merz’s first full day in office – he will travel to Poland later in the day.
