STORYLINE:
Hundreds of Kashmiris rallied in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, to condemn Indian allegations of Pakistan’s involvement in the deadly Pahalgam attack that killed 26 tourists.
The demonstrators chanted anti-India slogans, including “we will take Kashmir back“, “down with Modi“ and “freedom is our right.“
A deadly attack on tourists in the disputed Kashmir last week has plunged relations between India and Pakistan to new lows, with both sides hinting at imminent military action.
India accuses Pakistan of backing the massacre, in which 26 men, mostly Indian Hindus, were killed, a charge Pakistan denies.
Both countries have since expelled diplomats and citizens, ordered the border shut and closed their airspace for each other.
Kashmir is split between India and Pakistan and claimed by both in its entirety.
New Delhi describes all militancy in Indian-controlled Kashmir as Pakistan-backed terrorism.
Pakistan denies this, and many Muslim Kashmiris consider the militants to be part of a home-grown freedom struggle.
