Germany has a new chancellor. And in his first full day on the job, Friedrich Merz is traveling to Paris to meet French President Emmanuel Macron. He’ll then fly to Warsaw to see Prime Minister Donald Tusk. This comes after a tense beginning for the new chancellor. The conservative leader failed Tuesday’s first round of voting in parliament, something no post-war chancellor designate had ever experienced.
