STORYLINE:
Thousands of people marched in Mexico City on Saturday, to demand free access to marijuana and cannabis, the right to grow it for personal use, and an end to the harassment of users.
Although the Supreme Court of Justice in Mexico has declared it unconstitutional to criminalize the possession of more than five grams of marijuana for personal use, the issue of its possible legalization is stalled due to a lack of consensus in the Senate.
This prevents clear regulation for consumers.
The use of the plant continues to be criminalized, and the social stigma has not disappeared in the country.
"The legalization of cannabis is a very important issue to me because I feel that prohibition and criminalization lead to more drug trafficking and, consequently, more delinquency and organized crime," said student and march attendee Sofía Nájera.
