And the gentleman in the United, since the delays, the possible delays of the flight here to DC may be canceled, so they went ahead and put us on direct flight to Madrid tonight.”

"I was concerned about my first leg of the flight, you know, being canceled. Because of, you know, what’s happening here. I don’t know what’s really going on. Yeah. You know, you have to be prepared. So, you know, we called the airlines ahead and they told us, you know, that everything was on schedule. So we didn’t have to worry about that. When we got here, then we were going to check in, and then they offered us a way of, you know, flying direct to our final destination without stopping by and stopping in DC so we said, "Okay."

"I haven’t personally had any delays, but I’ve received numerous notifications, um, leading up to my flight today, telling me about the delays, you know, I fly in and out of Newark all the time. I think it’s a great airport. So I was a bit surprised to hear of the… the current delays, but it seems like there’s some construction or something going on."

"I mean, it’s definitely a concern. Um, I mean, air traffic controllers are essential to, you know, our safety as… as individuals and Americans. Um, so it is concerning to me, um, but it seems like that their relationship that the air traffic controllers have with the government, uh, seems to be in flux right now. And, you know, I believe it’s the responsibility of our government to resolve that as quickly and efficiently as possible."
11. Various, travelers at Newark International Airport
STORYLINE:
The nation’s air traffic controllers union says the flight cancellations plaguing Newark’s Liberty International Airport and spilling over to U.S. airports can be traced to a week ago when controllers temporarily lost contact with planes.
The union says that’s when crews in the Philadelphia air traffic control center that line up flights going in out and of Newark lost radar and communications with the planes.
The flight disruptions have now entered a second week and brought about renewed calls to upgrade aviation technology and infrastructure and to address the nationwide air traffic controller shortage.
