"Public media is essential to this country. Healthy democracies invest in public media and in America we spend a very small amount on our public media system. So all of the local entities do our best to make up the difference of the funding that we should have. So the idea is really that we’re underfunded. So the idea of taking away any of the very small amount of federal funding we get will certainly harm our ability to make democracy in America healthier."

"There’s a lot of communities across the country where public radio and public TV, a lot of that is the only real access that they have to this kind of information, to free information and especially in rural areas and smaller communities it makes a huge difference ."

"What happens when the power goes out for long periods of time? The infrastructure goes away and I’m talking about you know, it’s cell phone service, it’s internet service. All the stuff goes down eventually when the power is out for for multiple days and what happens is radio becomes the backbone, becomes the backup to the backup . People can listen to radio when the power is out. It’s hard to watch TV when you don’t have power in your house but radio is the most successful and easy thing to do and for us to continue to provide information during that time costs money, requires infrastructure, requires investment over the course of years. That’s where the Corporation for Public Broadcasting funds help us to be able to be prepared for something like that."
