Footage released by an IDF spokesperson shows Edan Alexander’s mother, Yael Alexander, talking to her son on the phone for the first time following his release from Hamas custody after being held hostage for 584 days.
Alexander is believed to have been the last living American held hostage by Hamas.
Alexander, a New Jersey native, moved to Israel at the age of 18. He was serving in the IDF when he was captured from a military outpost close to the Gaza frontier during Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. The now 21-year-old was 19 when he was abducted.
