STORYLINE:
Protesters gathered in the Pakistani city of Karachi on Wednesday to condemn India’s attacks and celebrate Pakistan’s armed forces.

In a rally organised by the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League, activists demanded the government retaliate to avenge the deaths of those killed.

India fired a number of missiles at Pakistan earlier on Wednesday, in what it said was retaliation for last month’s massacre of Indian tourists.

Pakistan called the strikes an act of war and claimed it downed several Indian fighter jets.

Pakistan’s military said the missiles killed more than two dozen people in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and the country’s Punjab province.

India’s Defense Ministry said the strikes targeted at least nine sites where "terrorist attacks" against India had been planned.

Pakistan said it reserved the right to respond, raising the specter that the back-and-forth could spiral into all-out conflict.

Already, it’s the worst confrontation between the rivals since 2019, when they came close to war.
