"When I write a song, I hope that I’m writing a song that if I had written it 50 years before then, it would have meant something to people. I hope that I’m writing a song that is going to mean something to people right now. I hope that I’m writing a song that 50 years from now, it’s going to mean something to people. So, I try to give it that element from me when I’m writing."
(Reporter: "It’s that authenticity. Would you say that that makes things timeless?")
"Well, I hope so. That’s all I could say. Yeah. As far as music goes, I’d like to be Beethoven, you know, five, four hundred years, they still play his music. So I’d like that. Five hundred years from now they’ll say, ‘Oh, let’s play Smokey Robinson’s music.’"

Four former housekeepers of Smokey Robinson allege in a lawsuit filed Tuesday that the Motown music luminary repeatedly sexually assaulted and raped them while they worked for him.
A message seeking comment from a representative for the 85-year-old Robinson was not immediately answered.
