STORYLINE:
Hundreds of activists rallied in Pakistan’s capital Karachi on Thursday to denounce Indian missiles and drone attacks in Pakistan and its administered Kashmir region.

The protesters were from the Muttahida Quami Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), which is part of the coalition of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (N) in Pakistan’s federal government. They chanted slogans such as “down with India” and “long live Pakistan.” The group also expressed solidarity with the Pakistan armed forces.

Addressing participants of the rally, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan leaders condemned Indian aggression on Pakistani soil and accused the Indian government of fanning war mongering.

"This is the protest to reject India’s aggression, this protest is to let the civilized world know that Pakistan does not want war, but when if comes to protect our motherland, every Pakistani is standing beside our armed forces,” Senate member of Pakistan, Faisal Sabzwari said.

Tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors intensified after gunmen killed 26 people, mostly Indian Hindu tourists, in India-controlled Kashmir last month. India accused Pakistan of being behind the assault. Islamabad denies that.

Indian strikes on Wednesday killed 31 civilians, including women and children, according to Pakistani officials. More people were killed on both sides of the border in heavy exchanges of fire that followed. It was the worst confrontation since 2019, when the rivals came close to war.

India also fired attack drones into Pakistan on Thursday, wounding four soldiers, the Pakistani military said. India, meanwhile, accused its neighbor of attempting its own attack.
