He kept saying ‘calm down, man, calm down.’ He telling y’all to chill. And y’all so intense."

"Why, why do us as Black people, specifically Black people, we get concerned about police officers doing something to us? We get concerned about that. When y’all come around, we get nervous. When y’all get behind us, we get nervous. Instead of y’all asking the correct questions like, ‘Yo, like what’s going on, your tail light out, dog? You need some help getting that fixed?’ Police officers don’t do that today."

STORYLINE:
News of the acquittal of three former Memphis police officers was met with disappointment and questions by local skateboarders at a skate park in Memphis, where Tyre Nichols once skated before his death.
An out-of-town jury from a majority-white county took about 8 1/2 hours over two days to find Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley and Justin Smith not guilty on all charges after a nine-day trial in state court in Memphis, which is majority-Black.
Ashton Carson, 22, and Michael Dennis, 19, were confused by the jury’s decision not to find guilt on any of the charges against the former officers.
"Hearing about that they are free and not serving any justice is wild to me," said Carson.
Dennis admitted that he hadn’t been following the trial closely, but he didn’t understand the verdict.
