STORYLINE:
Pakistan’s religious political party Jamaat-e-Islami chanted anti-India slogans during a demonstration in Karachi on Friday to condemn Indian strikes in Pakistan and to show their support for the Pakistani military.
Addressing the participants of the rally, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi’s Monem Zafar Khan urged the nation to stay united.
“The entire Pakistani nation that is 250 million people are standing along with the armed forces of Pakistan,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani Stock Exchange recovered after previously declining in the market and talk about a possible US mediation in the India-Pakistan escalation.
Pakistani authorities also imposed a temporary restriction on fishing in the country’s territorial waters.
All fishing boats and trawlers at sea have been recalled as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have urged fishermen to refrain from venturing out to sea, and security at all major ports has been significantly tightened.
Tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours have soared since gunmen killed 26 people, mostly Indian Hindu tourists, in India-controlled Kashmir last month.
India has accused Pakistan of being behind the assault, an accusation Islamabad denies.
