STORYLINE:
A large number of supporters of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (N) held a rally on Saturday evening to celebrate the ceasefire announcement by India and Pakistan following days of attacks on each others’ territories.
The participants of the rally marched through Karachi and chanted slogans like “Long live Pakistan” and "Long Live Nawaz Sharif."
Pakistani Muslim League (N) leader Nehal Hashmi told The Associated Press, "we thanked the Pakistani armed forces, the pilots of the Air Force, Pakistani Army Chief, Pakistani Prime Minister and Pakistani leader Nawaz Sharif who brought the nuclear program, missiles program, JF-Thunder programs in the country and made the defense of the country strong."
India has since accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire deal made hours earlier Saturday after U.S.-led talks to end the most serious military confrontation between the nuclear-armed rivals in decades.
Explosions were heard by residents in Srinagar and Jammu in India-controlled Kashmir were followed by blackouts in the two cities. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
