15. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Sacrisanta Mosso Rendón, mother of two sons who were assaulted and murdered nine years ago in the State of Mexico:
"I am here because I know many relatives of missing persons. They have sheltered me, I have sheltered them, we have hugged each other, and it is a way of supporting each other, a way of feeling strong. Those hugs that I receive here today nourish my soul."

STORYLINE:
Thousands of women whose children are missing marked Mother’s Day in Mexico on Saturday by protesting to demand the authorities do more to uncover the whereabouts of their lost sons and daughters.
There are more than 127,000 missing people in Mexico, according to government figures.
Mothers whose children have vanished have become a vocal force in the push to find them
In the past two decades, as officials have fought drug cartels and organized crime has tightened its grip in several states, it’s been difficult to trace the perpetrators and causes of disappearances.
Human trafficking, kidnapping, acts of retaliation and forced recruitment by cartel members are among the reasons listed by human rights organizations.
At Saturday’s march some mothers chanted "a mother doesn’t give up" and "son, your mother is in the fight."
"We are afraid of being in front of the cameras, but I do it for my son and until we find him. Until we find him, even if I lose my life, I will find him." said Teresa Corona Navarro, whose son Héctor Adrían Águila Corona went missing in Guadalajara in 2023.
This year’s demonstration focused not only on the thousands of missing people but also on the murder of mothers who died while searching for their children.
