“Obviously we are affected by the ongoing trade talks, because shipments, Hong Kong is regarded by the US as part of China for customs purposes, that that separate recognition was withdrawn by the US after the NSL took effect. And so all of our exports, which are mostly re-exports from China anyway, are tariffed, so that’s going to affect the level of trade, but hopefully, in the very near future, that would be a clam down. If you look at what Trump is doing, he’s blinking, he’s walking, is stepping things down and claiming victories.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English), David Webb, veteran market analyst:
“If things don’t cool down, then the US could order asset managers to dump Hong Kong Chinese stocks. They’ve already done that to some extent. There’s a list of stocks that that the US asset managers can’t own, that were established during the first Trump administration, and that could make things worse if they can carry on that way.”
