STORYLINE:
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Monday refused to say who will travel to Istanbul on Thursday for peace talks with Ukraine that President Vladimir Putin proposed over the weekend.
Peskov pointed to Putin’s remarks to reporters in the early hours of Sunday: "In that statement (Putin) clearly and unambiguously laid out our position on restarting direct talks in Istanbul without any preconditions, the very same direct talks that were halted by the Ukrainian side in 2022."
Peskov stressed that Moscow’s proposal, "aimed specifically at finding a real diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis, eliminating the root causes of the conflict and establishing a lasting peace" was supported by "leaders of many states, including our partners in the CIS, BRICS, and other countries."
